JANUARY 19 2015

These days everybody leads a “connected” life. We’re so concious of the goings-ons around us that we somehow get disconnected with our own selves.

One fall weekend, I went camping and backpacking by myself. It was a way to push myself to try something new and learn things about myself. Part of why I absolutely love camping is I force myself to turn off my phone.

At the end of my journey, I returned home and looked in the mirror. Shocked, I looked like a wreck. My hair was all over the place.

What I learned from it was certainly something real: We spend so much time observing ourselves that we get swept up in it and shut down.

Taking selfies – next time you walk by a building with windows, take notice at how many times you look at yourself in the reflection.

What if we lived in a world without mirrors? What if we lived a purely external life?
